Here is a before and after look at an image that was ok but needed some editing.

The telephone pole was taken out using the spot healing tool and rubber stamp or clone tool. On heather and grass background this can be done quickly and easily with larger brush sizes and no one will ever notice. Use a medium soft edge on the brush. Also notice the spec or dust in sky of the top photo. It’s actually a spec that has become lodged between the glass of my lens, it can’t be removed. I have to use the spot healing tool to remove it for every image I shoot with that lens. Ok also I colour corrected the photo from memory, especially adding warmth to the sky and heather. The warm tones were lost after jpg compression, I had to crank the hue and saturation over what I was going for by about 30% in the raw file to get the jpeg to match it. Taking out the telephone wires was probably the most time eating part of this retouch. Neither the spot healing tool or the rubber stamp tool works well for thin lines like wires. You really need to zoom in and use small brush sizes to get it right.

Here is another example shot on the same night but after a little later. The light was going, this was about as late as I can shoot with my little Nikon D40. I brightened it up with a few layer screens.
